Murray battling injury

Andrew Murray fears an ankle injury will wreck his chances of making a major impact at Wimbledon.

The 18-year-old was due to face Swiss player George Bastl in the first round today but is still nursing ligament problems.

He twisted his ankle in the last 16 at Queen's and pulled out of Nottingham last week in a bid to get fit.

But the US Open Boys' champion will have to wear heavy strapping and a brace to prevent more problems.

Murray said: "I have not been able to play properly for the past week. I have to have it strapped.

"It doesn't really affect my shots but maybe does affect my movement a little bit. I will just try not to think about it.

"I am not really expecting too much because my preparation has not been that good."

Meanwhile, Maria Sharapova begins the defence of her title with a first round match against No 36-ranked Nuria Llagostera Vives of Spain on Centre Court. She is followed by Tim Henman, who meets Jarkko Nieminen of Finland.
