Murphy to face England

12 April 2012

Geordan Murphy has been given the all clear to start Ireland's RBS 6 Nations clash with England on Saturday.

Murphy's participation at Twickenham hinged on a fitness test after the Leicester full-back missed the 16-12 defeat by Wales with an Achilles injury.

But he emerged from training on Thursday morning unscathed and was subsequently given the green light to face the World Cup finalists.

Ireland confirmed the news in a brief statement released on Thursday afternoon.

It read: "Ireland full-back Geordan Murphy underwent a fitness test on his Achilles injury today (Thursday) during the Ireland training session in UCD.

"He came through the test and has been passed fit to take his place in the team to play England on Saturday."
