Sheffield Wednesday are expected to unveil Gary Megson as their new manager this afternoon.

Owls chairman Milan Mandaric ended Alan Irvine's 13-month tenure at Hillsborough on Thursday following a poor run of form that has seen the npower League One side slip down to 12th in the table.

Megson, who has been out of work since his exit from Bolton in December 2009, had two successful spells with Wednesday as a player in the 1980s and is known to hold a strong affection for the club.

The 51-year-old was previously appointed by Mandaric at Leicester in 2007, but he stayed with the Foxes for just six weeks before being approached by Bolton.

He is set to be unveiled at a 5pm press conference and could take charge of Wednesday in their home clash with MK Dons tomorrow.
