Megson named as Wednesday boss
Sheffield Wednesday have appointed Gary Megson as first-team manager on a three-and-a-half year deal.
The former Bolton boss spent two separate spells with Wednesday as a player during the 1980s and is reunited with chairman Milan Mandaric, under whom he worked at Leicester. Megson left the Foxes after just 41 days but Mandaric seems to have put the acrimonious departure behind them.
"I am delighted with this appointment because Gary Megson is a top drawer manager," said the Wednesday chairman. "He has tremendous experience in the Championship and the Premier League and that is where Sheffield Wednesday needs to be."
He added: "He also has a huge affinity with the club as a former player. Gary is hungry for success; he is very ambitious and his ambitions match my own.
"My target when I bought this club was promotion this season then the Premier League and that remains the case.
"I am really excited about where Sheffield Wednesday can go and Gary feels exactly the same way."
Megson had been out of work since being sacked as Bolton manager in December 2009.
