McGinley on top in Wales

Paul McGinley maintained his push for a Ryder Cup place with a five-under-par 67 to share the early first-round lead in the Wales Open today.

The Irishman's 67 was matched by Paul Lawrie as they edged a stroke ahead of Jamie Donaldson and South Africa's Roger Wessels.

McGinley holds the final automatic qualifying place on Europe's Ryder Cup standings.
