Maradona 'back in hospital'

Diego Maradona: back in hospital
14 April 2012

Diego Maradona was reportedly readmitted to hospital today as concerns grew about his health.

The great Argentinian footballer, now aged 43, was taken by ambulance to the Clinica Suizo Argentina, accompanied by his personal doctor and hospital staff, according to media reports in Buenos Aires.

Maradona was feared to be on his deathbed last month, after being rushed to hospital with heart and lung trouble, but he recovered sufficiently to be discharged on Thursday.

Since his heyday as captain of Argentina's 1986 World Cup-winning team, and as talisman of the Napoli team which twice won Serie A titles and also claimed a UEFA Cup win, Maradona's health has rapidly declined.

He is known to have had major cocaine addiction problems, and had recently been receiving rehabilitation treatment in Cuba, where he has become an associate of President Fidel Castro.
