Manchester Grammar and Lymm had drawn 13-13 in September and another close-fought game saw Manchester win through in the last 15 minutes.

The 31-14 scoreline flattered Manchester, who only came through in the closing stages. It was they who scored first through Buchan, who converted his own try afterfive minutes, but Lymm levelled when Laga touched down after the home side stole a line-out.

Manchester again scored first after the interval throughcaptain Ben Murphy, with Buchan converting. Lymm hit back from a penalty five metres out, Gould converting Wright's try. So, 14-14 with 15 minutes left and Rowland and Marsh proved the Manchester heroes with two latetries.

Buchan, who also kicked a penalty, completed a satisfactory day by converting both scores. Manchester head for Arnold in the next round.
