Warrington centre Matt King is set to return to Australia next season to play under current Wigan boss Michael Maguire at South Sydney.

The 30-year-old-old centre is out of contract at the Wolves at the end of the year but has the option of a fifth season in Super League.

King, who became a father for the first time earlier this month, admitted a week ago he was agonising over a decision amid interest from two NRL clubs but reports in Sydney say he has made up his mind to return home.

"Matt's had his time in England and he wants to come home," Souths chief executive Shane Richardson told Australia's Rugby League Week magazine.

A move to Redfern would reunite King with Maguire, who was assistant coach during the player's successful spell at Melbourne Storm, and his former centre partner Greg Inglis, who joined the Rabbitohs this season.

The magazine claims negotiations to take King back to Melbourne broke down last week.

"Ten Tests, nine State of Origins, 6ft 2in, 100 kilos - he gives us a lot of versatility in our backs," added Richardson.

"He's played under Michael Maguire before and he and GI are great mates."
