Kemp leads South Africa charge

12 April 2012

Justin Kemp hit a century as South Africa claimed a comfortable 106-run victory over India in the third one-day international in Cape Town on Sunday.

Man-of-the-match Kemp scored exactly 100 - his first ton for the Proteas - and along with Andrew Hall (56), the pair put on a world record eighth-wicket partnership in ODIs of 138 to help the hosts recover from 76 for six to 274 for seven from their 50 overs.

The Indians were always chasing the game and apart from Mahendra Singh Dhoni (55) and captain Rahul Dravid (63), the rest struggled as the tourists crumbled to 168 all out with Shaun Pollock the chief destroyer, claiming four for 26.

But the day belonged to Kemp, who plundered the Indian attack to all corners of Newlands in a knock that came off just 89 balls, including seven sixes and six fours.

The visitors got off to the worst possible start when they lost Virender Sehwag for a duck to the fourth ball as he chased a wide Pollock delivery and ended up top edging to Hall at third man for a duck.

Sachin Tendulkar was next to go for two as he could not resist a short delivery from Pollock and pulled the ball straight to Loots Bosman at square leg.
