Johnson gets vote again

Striker Andrew Johnson was today named player of the month for the second time this season.

Johnson, who scored Crystal Palace's late winner against Walsall, has been a key figure in their charge for the play-offs. The Division's leading scorer with 27 goals, he also picked up the Football League's monthly award for January.

Palace, meanwhile, will resist the temptation to play for the draw that will secure their place in the play-offs when they complete their league programme at Coventry on Sunday.

They have only to avoid defeat at Highfield Road to enter the battle for a Premiership place. But striker Neil Shipperley said today: "We will be looking to win rather than just to get the draw we need."

Palace's win against Walsall enabled Burnley to avoid the drop but manager Stan Ternent will leave next week after the club decided not to renew his contract.
