Joe Kinnear hopes Styles will see sense over Beye

13 April 2012

Referee Rob Styles has agreed to look again at the dismissal of Newcastle defender Habib Beye in a game which almost saw the hosts claim a shock win.

The official will study replays of the 12th-minute decision which saw Beye sent off for a trip on Robinho, and the Brazilian score from the resulting penalty.

Television replays clearly showed Beye played the ball.

When Newcastle boss Joe Kinnear was asked if he was hopeful the red card, which will keep Beye out of Saturday's derby trip to Sunderland, will be rescinded, he said: "From what I have seen on the screen so far, I would. Referees, like all of us, makes mistakes and please God, he will put it right."

Newcastle fought back with Shola Ameobi bundling in an equaliser and then taking the lead when City skipper Richard Dunne sliced a corner into his own net.

Four minutes from time City made it 2-2 through Steven Ireland to prevent Newcastle claiming their first League win since 23 August.

Kinnear added: "You couldn't have asked for more, could you?"
