Jenkins relishing trip Down Under

12 April 2012

Wales coach Gareth Jenkins is confident his 28-man squad are capable of registering a Test-series win over Australia, despite resting 18 key players for the trip.

The squad will be captained by Gareth Thomas and also includes Gavin Henson and James Hook.

"We've selected a squad that we think can not only be competitive but can win two Test matches in Australia," claimed Jenkins, who has named two uncapped players - Cardiff Blues flanker Scott Morgan and 29-year-old Harlequins prop Ceri Jones.

"I think we can be very competitive - arguably it's a very strong Welsh team. We have got British Lions, we have got Wales internationals and players who have played very recently for Wales.

"I'm excited about this summer tour. It's an opportunity for us to measure ourselves against top-quality opposition.

"As far as I'm concerned, this tour is not about development but giving a group of boys an opportunity to give me a competitive selection headache when I announce the World Cup squad on August 14."
