Injury forces Hollioake to opt for early retirement

14 April 2012

Former England one-day captain Adam Hollioake has been forced to bring forward his retirement from first-class cricket due to injury.

The Surrey all-rounder, who had been intending to quit the game at the end of the season, has been troubled by an ankle injury for most of the summer.

The 32-year-old has been having cortisone injections but has found his ankle cannot stand up to the rigours of the four-day game.

Hollioake intends to continue playing one-day cricket until the end of the summer and will be available for the Twenty20 Cup finals day on Saturday.

He captained Surrey to three Championship titles and led England in 14 of his 35 one-day internationals.
