Henman warms up for big test in Melbourne

14 April 2012

Tim Henman today stepped up his preparation for next week's Australian Open with some warm-weather training in Melbourne Park.

Henman, who won the Paris Masters in November, was also boosted today when he rose three places to 11th in the ATP Tour rankings.

Meanwhile, Moroccan Younes El Aynaoui is doubtful for the Open after injury forced him to pull out of the Kooyong Classic exhibition event in Melbourne starting tomorrow.

The world No13 is withdrawing from Kooyong because of a painful foot injury. "I am having intensive treatment every day but I am still thinking positive about the tournament," El Aynaoui said.

"The doctors are confident that the inflammation will go away. It's a matter of how many matches I can play."

Sweden's Thomas Johansson, the 2002 Australian Open champion, was named as El Aynaoui's replacement for Kooyong, joining Andre Agassi, Andy Roddick, Roger Federer, Robby Ginepri, Sebastien Grosjean, David Nalbandian and Taylor Dent in the eight-man, fourday tournament.
