Harry Redknapp ready to sell before he spends

Splashing the cash: Harry Redknapp spent almost £50million during the January transfer window

Harry Redknapp has admitted he faces a balancing act as he attempts to build a Tottenham squad capable of challenging the Premier League's top four.

After spending close to £50million during the January transfer window, Redknapp is keen to strengthen further this summer, with Sunderland forward Kenwyne Jones and Middlesbrough winger Stewart Downing again believed to be on his radar.

But Redknapp - who will discuss his transfer plans with chairman Daniel Levy this week - admits some of Spurs' fringe players may be shipped out first.

Redknapp said: "Possibly it is a case where we have to sell before we can buy. We will have to shift around a bit if we want to bring anyone in. We spent money in January but I think we are a couple of players away from getting a team to push the top four."
