Hammers loss is Derby's gain

West Ham have missed out on midfield target Rob Lee after he agreed to join Derby from Newcastle in a £250,000 deal today.

The former England international made it clear he wanted to move to the Upton Park club, who he supported as a boy, when Newcastle refused to discuss a new contract with him before Christmas.

But the offer West Ham manager Glenn Roeder made last month was £50,000 short of what Newcastle required and Lee, 36, was undergoing a medical today before completing his transfer to Pride Park.
