Goosen's special K

13 April 2012

Retief Goosen may still be feeling weary after his US Open triumph but he made great strides today in the Smurfit European Open at the K Club near Dublin.

Going into the second round of the £2million tournament two shots behind overnight leaders Paul Broadhurst, Nick O'Hern and Maarten Lafeber, the South African birdied four of his first six holes to go seven under par. Having started at the 10th, Goosen reached the turn in 32 and then picked up another birdie to go eight under and one shot clear of Lafeber.

The Dutchman followed six opening pars with a four at the long seventh and another birdie on the par five 10th. That put him one behind Goosen but one ahead of Australian O'Hern.
