Games are short of athletes

13 April 2012

A session of athletics has been cut from the Commonwealth Games schedule because of a lack of competitors.

The first-round heats of the men's and women's hurdles, 1500 metres and qualification for the women's high jump have been scrapped from the 29 July morning timetable at the City of Manchester Stadium.

The 14 athletes for the high jump will automatically progress to the final on 30 July, while competitors from the other events will have one less round.

The men's 3,000m steeplechase has only nine athletes making up the list of entrants.
