Fulham target £3.5m Breen

Fulham are poised to make a £3.5 million bid for Coventry City's Republic of Ireland centre-back Gary Breen. The 27-year-old defender has become the latest target for the Craven Cottage club, who are seeking a replacement for car crash victim Chris Coleman.

Breen began his career as a junior with Charlton before spells with Maidstone, Gillingham, Peterborough United and Birmingham. Three years ago Coventry paid Birmingham £2.5m to land the defender.

Much will depend on the player's willingness to drop into the First Division - although probably only for four months as Fulham seem certain to win promotion to the Premiership this season.

Fulham went out of the FA Cup to Manchester United at Craven Cottage yesterday and manager Jean Tigana will now concentrate on replacing Coleman. As Standard Sport reported last week, Fulham also have Newcastle's Alain Goma and Rangers' Lorenzo Amoruso on their list of possible replacements for Coleman.
