Friedel in as Villa's short-term stopper but Hennessey's next

13 April 2012

Martin O'Neill is planning to sign Wolves keeper Wayne Hennessey in the long term - but intends to sign Brad Friedel from as an immediate solution.

In demand: Villa want Wayne Hennesey

boss O'Neill hoped to get Hennessey this summer and called Molineux about their Wales star, 21.

But Mick McCarthy's side will not sell their prized asset for at least year as they push for the Premier League.

And reports in The Mirror suggest that O'Neill is now set to complete a £2million move for US veteran Friedel, 37, ahead of Saturday's InterToto Cup game with Danish side OB Odense.

But O'Neill will return for £6m-rated Hennessey should Wolves fail to win promotion.
