Former Brighton and Sheffield United star Kazim-Richards' is making his mark

13 April 2012

Turkey's Colin Kazim-Richards is flying the flag and dreaming of glory.

The London-born star, who qualifies for Turkey through his Turkish-Cypriot mother, has completed a fairy-tale rise from the lower leagues in England to the pinnacle of European football after moving to Fenerbahce and earning a call-up to his adopted country.

Resting easy: Kazim-Richards (back) believes anything is possible now the Turks have made it to the last four

And now the former Bury, Brighton and Sheffield United star insists his countrymen can follow up their shock quarter-final triumph over Croatia by knocking out favourites Germany, too.

He said: 'Anything is possible. We've shown we don't give up until the last second, until the last whistle has gone, and that gives us a chance.

'I want to do it for my family back in London. They have always been right behind me. I had 20 friends and family watching the Croatia game - if they gave me 100 tickets, I'd have 100 watching against Germany. It's a massive game.'

Turkey will have to overcome a string of injuries and suspensions against the Germans and there is a fear they may be worn out after Friday's amazing extra-time win over Croatia.

Yet Kazim-Richards remains confident. 'I don't think the team looked tired last Friday,' he added.

'I think we will recover in time for Wednesday and the adrenaline will be pumping for the semi-finals.'

As for Germany, midfield enforcer Torsten Frings is set to return after missing the 3-2 quarter-final victory over Portugal with a rib injury.
