Hakim Ziyech has handed Chelsea a major injury scare ahead of the start of the season when forced out of the Super Cup against Villarreal with a damaged shoulder.

The Morocco winger had been outstanding in the first half, firing the Champions League winner ahead against Villarreal with a 27th-minute strike.

He had also been involved in some of Chelsea’s best moments in attack - creating golden chances for Marcos Alonso and Kurt Zouma.

But he landed awkwardly when defending a corner late in the half and stayed on the ground holding his shoulder for some time whil ehe received treatment.

Ziyech’s future has been the subject of uncertainty this summer as Thomas Tuchel looks to trim his squad.

But this was a statement of intent from the £33million signing from Ajax with a reminder of just how valuable he could be if he settles into the Premier League.

Tuchel will hope it is a matter of bruising, rather than something more serious - but the winger is likely to need scans before a full assessment can be made.
