Critics should say sorry to Argentina, claims Diego Maradona

Happy: Diego Maradona shows his glee at Argentina's progress

Argentina coach Diego Maradona today rounded on the critics who were calling for his head after the team stumbled through their South American qualifying group.

Maradona's men only just secured the fourth and final automatic place for South Africa but last night made it three wins out of three in the World Cup as they beat Greece 2-0 to finish on top of Group B.

"They (the critics) should apologise to the players, who are 100 per cent professional," said Maradona.

"We are doing our duty, which is to defend the Argentina shirt. Sometimes they are wrong, but those who have also criticised are wrong and should apologise."

Defender Martin Demichelis and substitute Martin Palermo scored the goals in the last 13 minutes after finally breaking through a determined Greek rearguard action.
