Who could Arsenal face in the Champions League knockout round after Gunners top Group A?

They may have needed a sizeable helping hand from Ludogorets Razgrad along the way but Arsenal have done what has seemed beyond them for so many years and topped their Champions League group.

Not since 2011 has an Arsene Wenger side finished top in the group stage, on which occasion they were drawn against an AC Milan side blessed with the Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Thiago Silva and Robinho and lost the first leg 4-0.

It was more than even one of Arsenal’s greatest European performances could rectify and Wenger will be hoping that the luck of the draw is on his side this year.

Certainly there are a fair share of sides that Wenger will hope to avoid, none more so than Bayern Munich, even though Arsenal did claim a famous win at the Emirates in last year’s group stage. Perhaps the only opponent more formidable than the Germans are Real Madrid, who dropped to second in their group after Borussia Dortmund struck late for a 2-2 draw.

Arsenal's other possible opponents are Benfica, Bayer Leverkusen, FC Porto (who beat Leicester 5-0 at home on Wednesday) and Sevilla.

The draw will be made on Monday December 12.
