West Ham vs Eintracht Frankfurt tactics: Where Europa League semi-final will be won and lost

West Ham face their biggest game in decades tonight as Eintracht Frankfurt visit the London Stadium for the first leg of the Europa League semi-final.

Here, Standard Sport’s Jack Rosser looks at three key talking points for David Moyes’ side ahead of the game...

Stop Kostic

Filip Kostic is the heartbeat of this Frankfurt side and bagged two goals in their historic win at Barcelona. The wing-back, who is more naturally a winger, has been dubbed ‘horse lungs’ by fans in Germany, such is his work-rate.

If the Hammers can shackle him, they will go a long way to stopping Frankfurt as a whole, while his tendency to get forward may also open up gaps for Jarrod Bowen.

Beware Kamada

While Kostic may be the engine and driving force of Frankfurt, Daichi Kamada brings a touch of class. The Japan international, who scored twice during a group-stage meeting with Arsenal three years ago, is renowned for his vision and ability on the ball.

Should Declan Rice and Tomas Soucek be able to deny Kamada the space to operate, the visitors will find creating chances a lot more difficult.

Antonio’s time

David Moyes has been ramping up the pressure on striker Michail Antonio in recent weeks. West Ham’s only senior forward was a nightmare for the Lyon defence in the last round, but has managed just two goals in 2022 — and none since March 2.

The 32-year-old is getting into great positions but looks shot of confidence when the crucial moment arises. Chances cannot be wasted at this level and now is the time to step up.
