West Ham have confirmed that Carl Jenkinson will return to the club on a season-long loan from Arsenal.

The defender re-joins the club where he spent the 2014-15 campaign on loan after making 36 appearances in all competitions for the east Londoners.

Speaking about the move across London, the 23-year-old admitted he was keen to return to West Ham for the upcoming season after calling it a "family" club.

"I'm really happy to be back after last year," he told West Ham's official website. "It was a good season for the Club and a good season for myself.

"To be honest I just wanted to come back here and I'm happy everything's been sorted out. I've got another season here and I can't wait.

"I'm a young player and I haven't had too many experiences of different clubs, but I loved every minute of it here.

"Everything about it is fantastic - it's a real family Club, the lads are great and the fans are great, so it ticks all the boxes you want when you join a football Club.

"I've got to come in, show what I can do and prove myself to a new manager. That keeps you on your toes and I've got to go and do that in pre-season. I'm looking forward to it."

Jenkinson began his career at Charlton Athletic and had brief loan spells with non-league sides Welling United and Eastbourne Borough before the full-back joined Arsenal in 2011.

The defender went on to start 43 games for the Gunners, including appearances in the Champions League, but moved on loan to West Ham last summer to secure regular playing time with competition for places at Arsenal fierce.

After impressing at the club last term, it is believed the Hammers were keen to sign the England Under-21 international on a permanent basis, but saw a proposed transfer rejected by Arsenal.

Jenkinson will now return to West Ham for their final season at the Boleyn Ground and joins Darren Randolph, Pedro Obiang, Stephen Hendrie, Dimitri Payet and Angelo Ogbonna as the club's summer signings.
