West Ham link with Matt Taylor puts Bolton boss on alert

Marco Giacomelli11 April 2012

Bolton manager Owen Coyle is braced for a bid from West Ham for Matt Taylor but said today he does not want to lose him.

The clubs meet at Upton Park tomorrow and the midfielder could be switching sides next week after reports that the Hammers are preparing to offer £2million.

Taylor joined from Portsmouth in 2008 and extended his contract a year later. However, since Coyle took over in January Taylor has faced new competition for his place with the manager getting Arsenal's Jack Wilshere and then Manchester City's Martin Petrov on loan.

Petrov started last week's draw with Fulham while Taylor only came on for the last four minutes and Coyle accepts the 28-year-old wants to be playing regularly.

The manager needs to generate funds if he is to strengthen his squad during this transfer window and that could allow the Hammers to land the set-piece specialist.

"Matt knows how it works and that there are some very good players at this club," said Coyle.

"He's a terrific player, and he has shown he's very much a part of our group. I'm not going to sit here and say if money was offered for any of our players that we'd take it. Matt is a very big part of our squad."
