West Brom have rejected a transfer request from striker Saido Berahino.

Spurs' opening offer of £18m for the 22-year-old was turned down last week and the England Under-21 has lodged a request to leave the Hawthorns, but his request has been denied.

"West Bromwich Albion have received a written transfer request from Saido Berahino.

"The request has been rejected and the club’s position remains unchanged from that outlined in the statement from Chairman Jeremy Peace of August 18. 'There will be no further comment," read a statement on the club's official website.

Berahino was omitted from Sunday's squad to face champions Chelsea as manager Tony Pulis believed that the forward was not in the right frame of mind to play.

The forward scored 14 goals in 38 top flight appearances last season, the third highest total for an Englishman.

Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino is in the market for a centre forward to complement the talent of Harry Kane after overseeing the sale of Roberto Soldado this summer while Emmanuel Adebayor does not feature in his plans.
