Watford's Troy Deeney: Manchester United spend a lot of money on transfers but I'm not surprised by win

Watford captain Troy Deeney hailed his side's display against transfer heavyweights Manchester United and says the Hornets fully deserved their 3-1 Premier League victory.

Walter Mazzarri's side were the better side from the first whistle at Vicarage Road on Sunday, and took a first-half lead through Etienne Capoue's fourth league goal of the season as the likes of £89million Paul Pogba struggled for United.

Marcus Rashford equalised after the break for Jose Mourinho's visitors, but super-sub Juan Camilo Zuniga scored less than a minute after coming on before then winning an injury-time penalty for Deeney to seal all three points.

Deeney told BT Sport: "It is nice for us to get back-to-back wins. We have had the toughest start of any club.

"To come out with seven points is massive for a club like us.

"I am not surprised by how we played. We should take a bit more credit, we pressed well, condensed the space and were tough in the tackle.

"We need to be against teams like Manchester United who have high quality players and spend a lot of money.

"We have some really good quality players and men in there, which is the hardest part, I thought we were the better side and had a lot of chances, even when they scored we showed what we are made of and came again."

Mourinho was furious with referee Michael Oliver for not awarding what he felt to be a foul by on Anthony Martial in the build-up to Capoue's goal, with the United forward substituted through injury soon afterwards.

He said: "The referee's and the linesman's mistake is not under my control. I can't do anything to improve it.

"In the second half we were much better, we get the draw [equalised] and after that we were the team and [Watford goalkeeper Heurelho] Gomes makes a phenomenal save and luck is again something we cannot control.

"We cannot control the referee, we cannot control the lucky moments.

"The only thing we can control is our individual mistakes and our collective mistakes."
