Vincent Janssen began Tottenham's close-season with a goal as Netherlands beat Morocco on Wednesday evening, with Chelsea's Nathan Ake making his senior international debut.

The 22-year-old was in a lively mood, going close twice in the first half before beating Minur Mohamedi just after the hour mark to extend his country's lead on the night.

Janssen brought down Quincy Promes' cross from the right on his chest and poked a shot past the onrushing goalkeeper from 12 yards.

Elsewhere, Chelsea defender Ake played the full game at left-back in his first game at that level.

Promes had earlier opened the scoring, tucking home from a similar distance after fine work from Memphis Depay on the left wing.

Matthijs de Ligt was shown a straight red card minutes after Janssen's goal, before Mbark Boussoufa halved the decifit with a fine free kick.

It was Janssen's second goal in as many games, having scored as Spurs signed off for the 2016-17 season with a 4-1 friendly win in Hong Kong.

The youngster had earlier admitted to disappointment over his debut season in north London, playing second fiddle to Premier League top scorer Harry Kane to earn just seven starts.

However, Janssen is keen to improve next season having seemingly ruled out a summer exit.
