Tottenham's summer signing Victor Wanyama has admitted his first goal for the club "means the world" to him as the midfielder praised the Spurs fans for their support on his home league debut.
Spurs completed the signing of Wanyama from Southampton on a five-year deal for £11million in June, which re-united the midfielder with his former boss at St Mary's Mauricio Pochettino.
After Tottenham drew their opening game of the season 1-1 against Everton at Goodison Park last week, Pochettino's men looked to be heading to another draw, this time at home to Crystal Palace on Saturday.
But Wanyama headed in a winner eight minutes from time on Saturday to hand Tottenham their first win of the new season and ensure his league debut at White Hart Lane ended up being a memorable one.
In fact, Wanyama admitted after the match his goal against Palace was "special" because it came in front of the Spurs fans.
Speaking to Spurs TV, Wanyama said: "It's difficult to explain. It means a lot to me - it means the world to me.
"Getting a goal on my debut in front of our fans is just amazing. It's the only thing I could ask for and I'm really grateful.
"I can't describe it, it's been a special goal for me."
He added: "It's amazing, my debut and today how the fans were behind us from the first moment until the end was just special. I haven't seen this [before].
"They showed the support today and it was just a matter of time.
"I'm really looking forward to more supporters like today as the fans were really great."
