Uefa set to use ballots to decide who misses out on Euro 2020 tickets in reduced capacity stadiums

Thousands of fans face disappointment at the European Championships with Uefa likely to run ballots to decide who misses out on attending matches at this summer’s tournament.

With stadium capacities across the 12 host cities – including Wembley – set to be severely reduced, some supporters will have to accept refunds on their tickets.

No final decision has been made, but the expectation of European football’s governing body is that lotteries will be held to determine final ticketing arrangements.

Uefa are still waiting to hear the plans of each host city, which will be submitted early next month.

But it is accepted that travel will be difficult during the ongoing coronavirus pandemic and no stadium will be at maximum capacity.

Host cities will inform Uefa of the percentage of fans they believe they will be able to accommodate.

Not all tickets have been sold and supporters have had three opportunities already to apply for refunds.

A number of tickets were held back for countries qualifying via the play-offs, including Scotland, who play England at Wembley on June 18.

Because the Scots qualified in the midst of the pandemic last November, they were not able to apply for tickets.
