Tottenham to face Borussia Dortmund in Uefa Champions League last-16 stage

Tottenham will face Borussia Dortmund in the last 16 of the Champions League.

Spurs achieved almost the unthinkable in qualifying from their group after taking just a point from their first three games.

Late comebacks from Inter Milan, who took all three points, and PSV who earned a draw against Mauricio Pochettino’s side, as well as a masterclass from Lionel Messi at Wembley, left the north Londoners with an almighty uphill battle.

In the return fixtures, however, Spurs had the late drama on their side 89th and 80^th minute winners against PSV and Inter respectively before Lucas Moura’s deserved 85^th minute strike in Barcelona saw Tottenham through to the knockout stages for the second consecutive year.

Finishing second in their group to Barca means, usually, a tougher draw awaits, though it cannot be much more difficult than last season where, despite topping the group, Juventus were pulled out of the hat to face Spurs.

As group stage runners up, the first leg will be played at Spurs’ home game – where that will be is yet to be confirmed – while the second leg will be away from home.

The first legs will take place on 12-13 and 19-20 February, with the return legs on 5-6 and 12-13 March.
