Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino hints at imminent touchline ban

Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino hinted that he expects to be handed a touchline ban by the Football Association following his argument with referee Mike Dean at Burnley.

Pochettino rowed with Dean following the full-time whistle of Tottenham's 2-1 Premier League defeat at Turf Moor on February 23.

The FA duly charged Pochettino with improper conduct, though the Argentine apologised and confirmed he would not request a personal hearing with the FA to explain his actions.

Despite his contrition, Pochettino's reaction following a 1-0 victory against Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday night - which takes Spurs through to the Champions League quarter-finals - suggests that the coach expects to be handed his first touchline ban in England.

“I am very disappointed, I don't think that is going to change but I don't care, we are going to be strong,” Pochettino said.

“If [we] are not going to receive a help from our football people in our country only I can laugh. You are going to see tomorrow why I am not so happy with the people.

“At 10am you are going to see.”

Put to him whether or not a ban was set to be announced, Pochettino flashed a wry smile before leaving the room.

All expectations then are that he will not be on the touchline for Saturday’s return to Southampton, though that seems insignificant now given Tuesday night’s triumph.
