Should Tottenham enter the transfer market after Harry Kane injury?

It was the news that no Tottenham fan wanted to hear... Harry Kane is out until early March.

Kane was injured late on during Sunday's 1-0 Wembley defeat to Manchester United, and the look on the Spurs striker's face suggested that he knew it would be another lengthy layoff.

Tottenham revealed the extent of Kane's injury on Tuesday afternoon, with a club statement reading: "Following preliminary assessments, we can confirm that Harry Kane has damaged ligaments in his left ankle, sustained during Sunday's match against Manchester United.

"The striker will continue to be monitored by our medical staff as he commences rehabilitation and is expected to return to training in early March."

Mauricio Pochettino played down the chances of January signings before Sunday’s 1-0 defeat to Manchester United at Wembley, but the Spurs manager will meet chairman Daniel Levy to reassess the situation tomorrow, when the Argentine returns from a two-day break in Barcelona.

Kane’s injury comes at the worst possible time, with South Korea’s Heung-min Son potentially missing for the next five games at the Asian Cup in the United Arab Emirates.

With Fernando Llorente available and Lucas Moura able to play up front, Pochettino is understood to be more relaxed about his forward options - even going so far as to confirm that Vincent Janssen is not part of his plans before confirmation of Kane's injury.

However, Lucas — who has missed the last two games with a knee injury — has played down his chances of being fit to face Fulham, writing on Twitter: “The knock was strong, it is still painful. I am doing full time treatment to be ready as soon as possible.”
