Mauricio Pochettino says Tottenham do not deserve to reach the latter stages of the Champions League after a frustrating 2-2 draw with PSV.

Spurs looked to have secured a much-needed victory after goals from Lucas Moura and Harry Kane cancelled out Hirving Lozano's opener, only for Hugo Lloris to see red for a rash charge from goal.

PSV had the momentum and it paid divends as Luuk de Jong equalised three minutes from time. The result leaves both teams with just one point after three games and on the brink of an early exit.

"It wasn’t enough today," Pochettino said. "If you don’t win this type of game it’s so difficult to deserve to qualify in the Champions League."

Tottenham enjoyed over 70 per cent possession and peppered PSV's goal with 24 shots but were unable to kill off the game to secure three vital points.

Pochettino added: "We dominated the game but need to be so aggressive and score more goals. It’s not so difficult to judge or analyse the game.

"That is the reality on the pitch. It’s so easy to look for someone to blame like the referee or Hugo."

Pochettino insisted the blame was not to be laid at Lloris's feet, despite the late red card.

"In my opinion it wasn’t a red card, but I don’t blame the referee," he said.

"[Lloris] doesn’t need to apologise. Football is about making mistakes.

"It was an action in football that happens often and of course sometimes that happens."
