Tottenham could once more find their transfer plans disrupted by Barcelona after Sofiane Boufal’s agent confirmed that the Spanish champions are interested in his client.

Spurs’ interest in French defender Samuel Umtiti has already been railroaded by Barcelona, with Lyon’s president Jean-Michel Aulas confirming earlier this month that he had received a declaration of interest from the Nou Camp.

Reports in Spain have since claimed that Umtiti is close to agreeing a move to La Liga though no decision is expected until the 22-year-old’s participation in Euro 2016 is over.

Lille midfielder Boufal first emerged as a target for Tottenham in October and has earned comparisons with Eden Hazard for his exceptional control in crowded areas of the field, the sort of skill that would likely mark him out as a potential prospect for Barcelona as well as Spurs.

And Boufal’s representative Yvan Le Mee has confirmed that he has met with the Nou Coump hierarchy over a potential move.

He told Le10 Sport: “We did have a meeting with the leadership of FC Barcelona in the last few weeks. There is an interest.

“Now the reflection is whether Sofiane Boufal will go to Barcelona to compete with MSN (Lionel Messi, Luis Suárez and Neymar) or should he go to a club where he is going to start matches and express his exceptional talent.

“We have also initiated discussions with three other clubs that interest us, but they either have or will change their coach or the coach is in charge of a national team at the Euros. In England, there is interest, but the English market is just beginning. A transfer of 20 and 25 million euros is not resolved in two weeks, of course.”
