Tottenham injury news: Hugo Lloris could start against Fiorentina after returning to training

Tom Collomosse24 February 2016

Hugo Lloris has returned to training with Tottenham as Mauricio Pochettino debates whether to risk his captain against Fiorentina on Thursday.

The France goalkeeper missed Spurs’ last two matches with a shoulder injury sustained in the closing seconds of the 2-1 win at Manchester City on February 14.

Lloris was due to be assessed in Wednesday’s final training session before the Europa League tie against the Serie A side, after which Pochettino will make a final decision.

It would be a significant boost for Tottenham were their captain available. Although Spurs are favourites to progress to the last 16 after a 1-1 draw in the first leg in Florence, Fiorentina showed enough last Thursday to suggest they will cause problems.

With Lloris in goal, Spurs look far more secure. They have the best defensive record in the Premier League, with Lloris’ excellence in goal a huge contributory factor.

Lloris’ replacement, Michel Vorm, looked shaky in last Sunday’s 1-0 home defeat by Crystal Palace in the FA Cup and was beaten at his near post by Martin Kelly for the only goal.
