Tottenham are quietly confident Hugo Lloris will be absent for just one game of their Premier League run-in.

The France goalkeeper suffered a gashed knee during the early stages of his team’s 4-3 win over Leicester at the weekend and will miss his country’s friendlies against Brazil and Denmark on March 26 and 29 respectively.

Spurs’ next match is at Burnley on April 5 and while the club’s medical staff are still assessing the extent of the damage, there are already doubts about Lloris’ chances of playing at Turf Moor. There is optimism, however, that the 28-year-old will be available for the home fixture against Aston Villa on April 11.

Lloris has been one of Tottenham’s best players this season – even as part of a defence that has let in 45 goals in the league.

Since club captain Younes Kaboul fell out of favour, Lloris has often captained the side and is a very well-respected member of the squad.
