Guglielmo Vicario has hailed his “dream” transfer to Tottenham, revealing an exciting message from Ange Postecoglou that helped to seal the deal.

The Italian goalkeeper, 26, is the first fresh arrival at Spurs since the appointment of their new manager earlier this month, following familiar face Dejan Kulusevski completing a permanent move after an 18-month spell on loan from Juventus.

Tottenham spent £17million to sign the player from Empoli, where Vicario had impressed and earned his first senior call-up to Roberto Mancini’s Italy squad, having previously played for the likes of Udinese, Cagliari and Perugia.

In his first words since heading to north London, Vicario described the move as a dream come true as he pledged to adapt quickly to life in the Premier League.

“Yes, I’m excited,” he told SPURSPLAY. “It’s a dream for me to be here, one of the biggest teams in England and in the Premier League. I’d like to start quickly, to join my team-mates because, for me, it’s a big pleasure to be here.

“I didn’t believe this opportunity. I told my agent it’s my first choice, I want to go to the Premier League and a big club like Spurs. For me, it’s so exciting.

“I want to learn a lot of things because the culture of football in Italy is so different. I need to adapt quickly to my team-mates, to the style of play, so many differences between Italian football (and the Premier League). The fans are amazing as well, the buzz when you play well. I love this mentality.”

Vicario, who will either act as competition or a replacement for Hugo Lloris next season with the long-serving captain’s Spurs future still subject to considerable doubt, also praised new boss Postecoglou’s attacking mentality, explaining how the goalkeeper’s role is so crucial in the exciting brand of football that he wants to bring to the club.

“I spoke with him, and he told me the keeper is so important with his attacking mentality,” Vicario added. “He wants to dominate the game. I love this mentality. It will be a big chance for me.”
