Tottenham defender Toby Alderweireld has been forced to withdraw from the Belgium squad due to illness.

The Red Devils are set to take on Portugal on Tuesday night but the 27-year-old will play no part in the international friendly.

The rest of Marc Wilmots' squad are set to travel to Leiria today as the game, which was originally scheduled to take place in Brussels, was rearranged in the wake of last week's attacks.

But Alderweireld is suffering from a stomach problem and has pulled out of the fixture, the Belgian FA have confirmed.

Alderweireld, who was one of three Spurs players named in the Belgium squad, has been an influential figure for Mauricio Pochettino's side this season.

The centre back has featured in every single one of Tottenham's Premier League fixtures since his permanent move from Atletico Madrid to White Hart Lane.

The north Londoners face Liverpool at Anfield on Saturday April 2 and will be hopeful Alderweireld recovers in time to feature.
