Speaking to Spurs TV, Dier said he was delighted to have completed his move to White Hart Lane.

"I'm really excited to be joining such a big club in the Premier League, and it's always been my dream, my ambition to come back to England. So I'm really happy to be back," he said.

"I just want to try and impress the manager and keep the fans happy by doing my stuff on the pitch, and to do as well as possible with the club. I'm really excited to be here.

"Spurs are a massive club. I've always enjoyed the way they play - their attacking football - and coming from Portugal that suits me.

"This season I want to adapt really quickly to the Premier League, and just do the best I can," he added.

"I've been in a lot of [England Under 21] squads with Harry [Kane] and Tom [Carroll], Harry especially, since I was I quite young so I know them pretty well. They're really good lads, Zeki Fryers as well, so that will make the move easier as well."
