Tottenham 3 CSKA Moscow 1: Spurs have learned they have to be better at Wembley, admits Harry Kane

Harry Kane says Tottenham have learned the importance of home form after exiting the Champions League far earlier than they hoped.

Though Spurs ended their group stage campaign in style with a 3-1 win over CSKA Moscow their fate had already been confirmed and victory offered little more than the guarantee of more European football in the Europa League.

Monaco and Bayer Leverkusen were the top two in Group E and both had won at Wembley as Tottenham struggled to settle at the ground that will be their home next season.

And Kane warned his team-mates that they will not be able to afford such sloppy displays at home again should they make it back to the Champions League.

“We've learned to be better at home,” he told BT Sport. “You have to win your home games - you can't rely on away results.

“We've finished the campaign well, there's a bit of pride to send the fans home happy.”

Even in victory Spurs were not always convincing at Wembley – the hosts spurned a string of fine chances in both half and found themselves having to fight back from an early deficit after sloppy play at the back by Jan Vertonghen and Eric Dier allowed Alan Dzagoev to fire in the opener.

At the other hand Dele Alli found the net with a smart sidefooted finish on 37 minutes and provided the header for CSKA goalkeeper Igor Akinfeev to turn into his own net for 3-1, yet it could have been an even better night for the 20-year-old.

Alli headed wide in the opening moments and saw several other chances going to waste and whilst he admitted that he was growing frustrated he never doubted that he and Tottenham would find a way to victory.

“It's frustrating when you don't put away an early chance,” Alli said. “I started getting frustrated but it was important I put a chance away.

“We have a belief in the squad. We felt we were dominating and knew the chances would come.”
