Theo Walcott is targeting a place in Everton history following his January move from Arsenal.
The England winger, who left the Emirates this week after 12 years in north London, sat alongside new manager Sam Allardyce for the first time on Friday as the pair previewed this weekend’s visit of West Brom.
The forward, who brushed aside questions regarding Arsene Wenger, Alexis Sanchez and the state of Arsenal as a whole, turned down a move to former club Southampton in order to join Allardyce at Goodison Park.
And Walcott cited the former England manager and the history of the club as key factors in his decision to move there.
“I felt the manager seems to get the best out of the players, especially when first coming on,” Walcott told reporters.
“I want to be part of this club’s history, and I feel like I can be with the levels of the players coming in. For me that was the main attraction. I had a brief spell with the manager at England and I wanted more of that.”
Walcott could come up against an old Arsenal friend if he makes his Everton debut against West Brom at Goodison Park this weekend.
And while the 28-year-old is looking forward to playing at his new home, having not trained yet the focus is firmly on his first session.
"Goodison Park has a lot of history," said Walcott. "It’s a great football club but I just can’t wait to get into training today. That’s the priority for me.”
