Tammy Abraham has returned to Chelsea to undergo treatment on a thigh injury, Bristol City manager Lee Johnson has confirmed.

Abraham has made a huge impact in the Championship this season, scoring 21 goals in 38 appearances for the Robins.

But the 19-year-old picked up an injury in last week's defeat at Leeds United, with early fears suggesting he was set for an extended spell on the sidelines.

Abraham returned to Stamford Bridge to be assessed and it has now been decided he will stay with Chelsea to undergo the early stages of is rehabilitation before returning to Ashton Gate for the remainder of his season-long loan deal.

"He'll be out for two or three weeks," Johnson confirmed.

"Chelsea are taking care of Tammy at the moment. We'll get him back here in a week to ten days."

Bristol currently occupy 21st place in England's second tier and are not yet safe from relegation.

Abraham's absence will come as a blow but Johnson is determined to climb away from the relegation zone with victory over Fulham on Wednesday night.

"I went to the Tottenham-Fulham cup game on Sunday. Fulham have the most passes in our division, up there with Reading.

"We've beaten Fulham three times since I've been here and we want to make that four," he insisted.
