Heurelho Gomes may not have been a firm fans' favourite during his time at Tottenham, but the Watford goalkeeper is currently outperforming his Spurs counterpart Hugo Lloris, according to statistics provided by fantasy football game Oulala.

Gomes will return to his former stomping ground on Saturday when Tottenham host the Hornets in the 3pm kick-off, with the shot-stopper having managed to steer his career back on track and become one of the leaders at Watford since departing Spurs in 2014.

Indeed, Gomes' form against Chelsea on Wednesday was such that he produced a last-gasp save to deny striker Diego Costa at Vicarage Road and earn his side a point - a performance that resulted in the Brazilian being named man of the match.

While Lloris has been largely solid since arriving on these shores from France, Gomes can also hold his head up high when he takes on Spurs this weekend with stats showing he beats the Frenchman in several areas this term.

The 34-year-old has made one more appearance (24) than Lloris but has made nine more saves (65) than the Tottenham man (56) while he also beats the France captain in terms of punches made (50) and catches (73).

While these numbers could be, in part, down to Gomes having a heavier workload during games because of the defence in front of him, the Watford man does trump Lloris when it comes to clean sheets - with Gomes' nine to Lloris' eight meaning he is currently joint third in the table for clean sheets with Manchester United's David De Gea and Stoke's Jack Butland.

However, Lloris' superb form can be demonstrated by the fact he has made more saves per goal (3.1) than Gomes (2.6) while also trumping the former Spurs shot-stopper by having conceded seven less goals than the Watford man this season.
