Slaven Bilic has confirmed that he expects West Ham to complete the signing of Juventus striker Simone Zaza today.
The Hammers have made no secret of their desire to significantly bolster their front line this summer and have been forced into the market again following injuries to Andy Carroll and Andre Ayew.
Bilic's side crashed out of the Europa League with a 2-1 aggregate defeat to Romanian minnows Astra Giurgiu on Thursday night, which highlighted the need for further recruits.
Standard Sport understands a deal for Zaza is set to be worth close to £25m but the 25-year-old could initially arrive on loan before the weekend.
"With the Zaza situation, it looks very likely to happen and should happen today.
"As far as I know the deal is agreed between clubs," said Bilic.
"It's very positive and is a boost. We've been trying for a long time now to get a top-quality striker and he was always mentioned."
Zaza scored five goals in 19 Serie A appearances last season and also featured for Italy at Euro 2016, where he missed a penalty as Antonio Conte's side crashed out in the quarter-finals.
Meanwhile, Bilic is reluctant to bring in too many new additions up front before the deadline as he is adamant he will not be short of numbers once he has a fully fit squad to choose from.
"With strikers, we are short now because of injuries but those players will come back - some of them very soon.
"Andre Ayew is due back at the end of November, so there is no point in adding too many players in that position," he added.
West Ham face Manchester Cit on Sunday with Ashley Fletcher and Jonathan Calleri vying to lead the Hammers' line at the Etihad Stadium.
