11 April 2012

Roma won Serie A's Eternal City derby with substitute Marco Cassetti striking the winner 11 minutes from time in a 1-0 defeat of Lazio.

Mirko Vucinic's cross from the right found Cassetti in the centre of the area and his right-footed volley proved to be the winner.

Roma ended a tense encounter, which was stopped for six minutes early in the first half after fireworks were thrown onto the pitch, with 10 men after David Pizarro was dismissed for two bookable offences.

It was Claudio Ranieri's side's seventh win of the campaign, taking them to sixth place in the table, one point behind fourth-placed Parma, who occupy the final Champions League qualification place.

Parma were held to a 2-2 draw at seventh-placed Genoa.

Rodrigo Palacio put Genoa in front but Jonathan Biabiany scored twice for the visitors before Raffaele Palladino ensured Genoa would emerge with a point.

Fifth-placed Fiorentina beat Atalanta 2-0, with goals from Juan Manuel Vargas and Alberto Gilardino.

Atalanta ended the contest with 10 men after substitute Jaime Valdes was sent off for two bookable offences.

Bottom club Siena secured their second win of the season with a 3-2 defeat of Catania.

Emanuele Calaio, Claudio Terzi and Michele Paolucci were on target as Siena came from two goals down to triumph.

Elsewhere, Fabio Quagliarella scored twice as Napoli beat Bari 3-2.

Cristian Maggio was also on target while Paulo Vito Barreto and Andrea Ranocchia scored for Bari, who had Alessandro Parisi and Ranocchia sent off.

Bologna claimed a 2-1 win over Udinese with a Marco Di Vaio penalty proving the difference after Antonio Di Natale had cancelled out Adailton's opener.

Chievo won 2-0 at Livorno, while Palermo beat Cagliari 2-1.

Yesterday, Inter Milan suffered a second loss of the season as Juventus won the Derby d'Italia 2-1.
