Ronald Koeman has revealed his interest in the Chelsea manager’s job during an interview on Dutch radio.

The Southampton manager declared that he wants to reach the ‘highest possible level’ while working overseas, before citing the role currently filled by countryman Guus Hiddink.

Hiddink replaced Jose Mourinho last month in an interim management capacity, and Koeman hopes to be recommended as the right man to fill the vacancy long-term.

"If Guus puts a good word in for me, that would be a big influence," he told Dutch radio station Radio 538.

"I always want to achieve the highest possible level," he added. "That has happened in Holland and that’s what I’d really like to achieve abroad.

"It is certainly something that I always have at the back of my mind."

But Koeman’s made little impact on the betting market, it seems.

As reported by Standard Sport earlier this week, Argentine Jorge Sampaoli remains the bookmakers’ favourite to take over at Stamford Bridge, with Koeman still considered a rank outsider at 40/1.

Standard Sport understands that Chelsea have not given up hope of luring Pep Guardiola to West London, while Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone is also highly regarded by owner Roman Abramovich, along with Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri.
