Former Chelsea boss Roberto di Matteo could be in line for a return to management - with Aston Villa.

The Italian led the Blues to Champions League and FA Cup success but was still given the boot by owner Roman Abramovich.

Villa have struggled this season and currently lie in the bottom three in the Premier League and are facing a humiliating Capital One cup semi-final exit to Bradford City.

The midlands club have made contact with Di Matteo's representatives to gauge whether he would be interested in the position should Paul Lambert be dismissed, the Daily Express reports.

Chelsea sacked Di Matteo in November, replacing him with former Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez.
